What Buddha said about Offering.......
The things that are saved from a house which is on fire could be used later. The things that were not saved, would burn and become useless. Similarly, get rid of your wealth as offerings in a world which is on fire with suffering and death. What you offered are like the saved goods from a burning house.
They would bring you happiness & comfort. What is not given would never expand, but die away. They would be either robbed by the thieves or taken by the king; be burnt or perished. What is left along with the self too would have to be abandoned at death. The wise men who know this enjoy their wealth as well as make offerings out of it.

Supreme Qualities of the Buddha ....
THE VIRTUES OF THE BUDDHA
Firstly, we must understand that our great teacher was an “Arahant”. An
Arahant is one who has eradicated all bad conditions of the mind, which
include: passion, lust, desire, hatred, ill will, delusion, and all other
defilements of the mind. There should be an unshakeable confidence about
that quality or our Great Teacher. That unshakeable confidence if developed
by knowing that in this world, and throughout all worlds, there is no other
teacher with this Arahant quality.
This second quality of our Teacher if “Samma Sambuddho”. Samma Sambuddho means that our
Great Teacher understood the Four Noble Truths without anyone’s help. So our Great Teacher is
really the one and only Teacher. What is the significance of the Four Noble Truths? These Truths
explain the realities of life. Our Great Teacher understood the realities of life, without anyone’s
help. By knowing this, we can establish an unshakeable confidence based on this second quality.
The third quality is “Vijjacaranasampanno”. Vijja means ‘true knowledge’. There are three kinds of
knowledge. Firstly, the Supreme Buddha, our great teacher had knowledge of the past lives of
beings. Through this knowledge the Supreme Buddha knew that this is a long journey through
samsara (the cycle of birth and death). The second knowledge our Great Teacher had was passing
away and the reappearing of beings. There should be a confidence based on both these kinds of
knowledge. Because of that knowledge, we can be sure that if we do not try to achieve the Stream
Entrant stage in this life, our next destination will not be a good one. The third knowledge that the
Supreme Buddha had was knowledge of the destruction of all taints (the destruction of all
defilements. So, with this true knowledge, our Great Teacher had excellent virtue, excellent
concentration, excellent wisdom, and excellent liberation. And that is called vijjacaranasampanno
– the one and only Teacher in this world.
The fourth quality is sugata. Su means ‘the correct path’. Gatha means ‘followed’. Therefore,
sugata means ‘following the correct path’. Supreme Buddha followed the best path, the Noble
Eight fold Path, and achieved the bliss of Nibbanna (ultimate liberation).
The fifth quality is “Lokavidu”. Lokuvida means ‘knower of the worlds’. It is one who understands
the origin of all worlds, understands the cessation of all worlds, and understands how to escape
from all the worlds.
(6) The Guide Unsurpassed of men to be tamed, (Anuttaro purisadammasarathi)
The sixth quality is “ Anuttara Purisa-dammasarathi”. Anuttara means
‘excellent’. It means ‘exalted’, there is no one else. Purisa-dammasarathi
means ‘Buddha is the Teacher of the people to be tamed’. What is the way of
taming? The Supreme Buddha’s way of taming is with virtue, concentration
and wisdom, and without any weapons. Even today, we are tamed by those
great qualities. We are following the Path of virtue (precepts and good
discipline), we are following the Path of concentration, and we are following
the path of wisdom.
The seventh quality is “Sattha devamanussanam”. Sattha devamanussanam means ‘the Teacher of
gods and humans´. We have to clearly understand that our Great Teacher is not only the Teacher
of humans, but also the Teacher of gods. If we are able to achieve the Stream Entrant stage in this
very life, Supreme Buddha explained that we will be re-born in the heavenly world. The Dhamma,
the Teachings of the Buddha, exists in the heavenly worlds.
The eight quality is “Buddha”. Buddha means ‘one who has understood the Four Noble Truths
without anyone’s help, and is able to proclaim the Dhamma to others’. Buddha means one who
teaches without holding anything back; with great compassion and with great loving kindness, so
that others may understand the Four Noble Truths and achieve real happiness.
The ninth quality is “Bhagava”. Bhagava means ‘the blessed one’. This means that our Great
Teacher, is the one and only teacher who held all these qualities. These are the great qualities of
the Supreme Buddha. Because of these qualities, we can develop an unshakeable confidence in
the Supreme Buddha.
It means mindfulness with the Buddha’s special qualities or virtues of the Buddha as the meditation subject.
In pali,
Itipi so bhagava---------The Buddha , indeed, is the Blessed one
Minds of Death
A virtuous mind at death is like water – it nourishes the virtuous potentialities that remain like dry seeds within our field-like consciousness. The minds we have when we are dying are of two types, gross and subtle. Whereas the gross minds of death can be virtuous, non-virtuous, or neutral, for ordinary beings the subtle minds of death are only neutral. When we are dying, if our last gross mind is virtuous it will cause the good potentialities carried in our mind to ripen as a virtuous mental action that will lead us directly to higher rebirth as a human or a god. A virtuous mind at death is like water – it nourishes the virtuous potentialities that remain like dry seeds within our field-like consciousness. If two kinds of seed, barley seeds and wheat seeds, are sown in a field, but only the wheat seeds are watered, these will be certain to ripen first. In a similar way, while we still carry both virtuous and non-virtuous potentialities within our mind, a virtuous mind at the time of death will ensure that our virtuous potentialities are the ones that will ripen. This holds even if we have led an immoral life and committed many non-virtuous actions. However, we do not thereby escape the effects of all our non-virtuous deeds. If we take a human rebirth our life may be afflicted with great suffering or our life span may be short. If we do not purify our negative karma we shall eventually experience the fully ripened effect of our actions by taking rebirth in the lower realms.

Our Last Mind
To cement your inner bond and hold your center in any situation, I recommend a daily practice of meditation where you focus on the spirit within. Doing so gets you into the habit of connecting with yourself. Start with a few minutes, then gradually increase the duration.
The technique is simple: follow your breath and explore the silence. It is not void or empty; that’s the mystery. As thoughts come, and they will, continue to refocus on your breath. Every inhalation. Every exhalation. The spaces between thoughts are where your spirit waits to be discovered. There is something real in there worth finding.
My spirit feels like a core of head-to-toe warmth vertically aligned though the center of my body. Imbued in the warmth itself is an intelligence and intuitive responsiveness to my rhythms and questions. It speaks only truth, which resonates like a chiming in every cell. Silently become acquainted with your spirit. You can return to it to reinforce who you really are–not just the self you present to the world, but that part of you that is timeless. Make room to pursue it.

Puthujjanas
Is this due to the fact that those who profess different "sects" of Buddhism have had no opportunity of studying Buddhism as the Buddha taught ? Or is it due to the fact that the leaders of these various "sects" have had no opportunity of meeting together and discussing Buddhism with a view to bringing about one unified movement ? Or, again, is it due to the fact that the leaders of these sects as mere "Puthujjanas ", stick to their own beliefs without giving a thought to their rightness or wrongness ?
I must confess that I have not got the answer to these queries, and it is not at all easy to get the right answer. Of course, during my brief stay of four or five days in Japan, it will be hardly possible for me to find the correct answer. Therefore, let me relegate this task to the World Buddhist Federation in which you are participating. It will be in the interest of Buddhism if this Federation can form a Committee of representatives of all "sects" with a view to determining one single " School" of Buddhism. If it is the desire of this committee to open its headquarters in Burma, it will be our pleasant duty to provide accommodation and necessary expenditure. But while I am in Japan I want to pave the way for the emergence of one single "school" of Buddhism.
Only "Puthujjanas" are capable of believing in different " sects" of Buddhism "Ariyas" are not. I hope you all know that a Puthujjana is a person who has not yet become an Ariya. I will explain what is meant by an Ariya in the course of my speech. So, if it is our desire to see only one" School" of Buddhism, and not diversified sects, the best means of achieving this is to make the Buddhists "Ariyas".
You may well ask the following questions: -
Can one become an "Ariya" in these times ?
Is it difficult to become an "Ariya" ?
One can become an "Ariya" in these times. If only one practises the Buddha's teachings in the right manner, one can become an "Ariya" in any time. The Buddha said in unequivocal terms that the days of "Ariyas" would never be over.
The Buddha also said in unequivocal terms that the practice of Buddhism would be rewarded at any time, and that one who practised Buddhism would discover the truth of the Dhamma in one's own life time.
In the circumstances, is it difficult to practise Buddhism with a view to discovering the truth ? My answer is in the negative. One need not have a sharp intellect to become an "Ariya"; any one who believes in the Dhamma and who has the necessary tenacity to practise it can become an " Ariya ".
There are four types of Ariya
Sotapanna, Sakadagami, Anagami and Arahat.
Sotapanna is the first stage of an Ariya, and a person who has reached this stage will enjoy the following advantages--
(a) Puthujjanas are apt to relish evil actions, evil expressions and evil thoughts more than good actions, good expressions and good thoughts. Therefore, there are more chances for a Puthujjana, after death, to go to one of the four nether planes of Existence called Apaya than to go to one of the higher planes of Existence. But a person in spite of his or her evil actions, evil expressions and evil thoughts in the past, will not go to any of the four nether planes of Existence, once he or she becomes a Sotapanna.
(b) If one persists in one's own life time, he or she can be an Arahat, and attain Anupadisesa-Nibbana. Even if a Sotapanna cannot persist in his or her practice and fails to become an Arahat in this life time, then a rebirth in one of the higher planes of Existence, the human plane, six planes of Lower Spiritual Beings (Deva) or twenty planes of Brahmas, Higher Spiritual Beings, is assured.
After at most seven rebirths in these higher planes, he or she is sure to attain Nibbana. A Sotapanna can never be reborn for the eighth time.
(c) Since the above facts relate only to one's hereafter, you may perhaps doubt their validity. Therefore I want to tell you what a Sotapanna comprehends very vividly even in his or her own lifetime. As soon as a person becomes a Sotapanna, the characteristic tendency of the human mind to doubt will become completely annihilated.
Whether a person is a Buddhist, or a Christian or of any other religion, he is assailed by doubts as to the truth or otherwise of his religion. This is the natural tendency of the human mind. The truth of this statement can be checked up by self-examination. A person who has become Sotapanna will no longer be assailed by such doubts. Anyone who. has reached that state will discover for himself that doubts no longer persist in him.
Besides these, a Sotapanna is simply incapable of taking life, theft, seduction, falsehood, taking liquor and drugs, and so forth. He or she is also incapable of evil actions, evil expressions or evil thoughts which can lead him to one of the four nether planes of existence. A Sotapanna will discover these facts for himself. I have come across in stances of many bad men undergoing a great transformation as soon as they reached the stage of Sotapanna.
Besides these, a Sotapanna can enjoy the bliss of "Phala" commensurate with the strength of mental awareness which he or she possesses. "Phala" is really an extraordinary phenomenon. I have seen with my own eyes a Sotapanna who was in the stage of "Phala" for five consecutive days. Besides the normal action of breathin

How has Vipassana Meditation Changed my life ...........
Ven.Waharaka Abeyarathalankara thero is the grate explainer of the Buddhism in the world to-day.
I completely changed ,I listened to most of his preaching and learnt a lot from that. Also, ven.Waharaka Abeyarathalankara thero’s answers are to be direct and very simple explain, it covered the equation from almost from all the angles. Listening to Dhamma preached by him immensely helped me and my ever questioning thoughts a break.
There are no words to explain how wonderful is the experience of listening to this miracle of preaching which is only miracle approved by Great Samma Sambuddha. I can always say from all of my heart that miracle I truly experienced through Ven. Waharaka Abayarathanalankara Thero. I simply have no words to explain how grateful I am for that! May this wonderful blessings covers the whole universe and may all being bless with the best!!!
Vipassana Meditation means seeing things as they really are. It means that you are not just looking at things, but really seeing what they are all about. Seeing through the mask, seeing the truth. Ultimately, this path leads to wisdom and with this wisdom comes that stress, anxiety and depression fall away and a relaxed person is left, who is unconcerned with the little problems of every day life, but knows how to handle them with wisdom.
Listening to Dhamma this help me to concentrating most of time meditation its wonderful experience without wasting time. Now I feel what is real Anicha, Dukka ,Anaththa nature of this world.
This all change me with Good Damma, and for fortune I met good friends they are Stephen long , Banthe Pannananda and from listening Bana (Damma) . once we entered to Damma ,its very easy Damma is guiding us where we have to go , what we have to do and why we are holding, now i feel , those days I like very much getting and saying its mine i thought its real happiness in this world. after doing meditation now feel if release and see its more happy than earlier because I dont want protect and hold say its mine , what is mine its the way to getting sad and worries if we can say its not mine I feel " SANSARA" can start to stop. we are getting birth as a human its very rare but most of people they want adding sansara they dont want stop sansara.
It is a bit like a small child asking the question: why? Why are things the way they are? Why am I supposed to wear this and behave like that? Why do we eat the things we eat and say the things we say? As an adult who has learned to simply accept these things as a matter of fact, it is difficult to answer these questions. Also, we do not like to think about them and their possible consequences. What would happen if we suddenly decided to change our lifestyle, our clothes, what we eat and drink, what we value and care for? Our environment, our parents, family and friends would be shocked! You can't do that! You are supposed to ....etc. They would pressure us back into the way we are accustomed to.
But this is exactly what Vipassana does, it asks the question WHY? And you have to face it and answer it. And then you have to ask yourself if that aspect of life is really where you want to be. Does it really help you. And then you can make a decision if you wish to change that in your life or not. It asks the question if you are really doing something
because YOU want it, or
because OTHERS want it.
Your choice,
your truth.
Vipassana meditation changed my life completely, and that is no understatement. I am now a much happier and relaxed person, while before I was depressed, easily getting angry. I had panic and anxiety attacks and really did not know what to do with myself. On top of that, I was ashamed of myself. This is not to say that you can only do Vipassana meditation when you are are wreck like that. You can do Vipassana even when you are already rather happy, and still find a lot of benefits. But then again, this post is about my personal story and not yours.
May triple gem bless you for the best !!!

How to become a Buddhist
Load Buddha
It is not a difficult thing. You can do it from anywhere you are. It is not essential to go to a temple to be a Buddhist. First and foremost believe in the Tripple Gem, Buddha (Lord Buddha himself), Dhamma (his teachings), & Sangha (His disciples)
This is how you pray:
Namo Thassa Bhagawatho Arahatho Samma Sambuddassa ///
(You have to tell this sentence three times. It means “I worship Lord Buddha”)
After that :
Buddhan Saranan Gachchaami
(I follow Buddha)
Dhamman Saranan Gachchaami
(I follow Dhamma)
Sanghan Saranan Gachchaami
(I follow Sangha) .
Duthiyampi Buddhan Saranan Gachchaami
(For the second time, I follow Buddha).
Duthiyampi Dhamman Saranan Gachchaami
(For the second time, I follow Dhamma).
Duthiyampi Sanghan Saranan Gachchaami
(For the second time, I follow Sangha)
Thathiyampi Buddhan Saranan Gachchaami
(For the third time, I follow Buddha).
Thathiyampi Dhamman Saranan Gachchaami
(For the third time, I follow Dhamma).
Thathiyampi Sanghan Saranan Gachchaami
(For the third time, I follow Sangha)
Then try your best to adhere to the following five precepts :
Panathi Patha Veramani Sikkhapadan Samadhiyami
I refrain from taking others’ lives (Killing).
Adinnadana Veramani Sikkhapadan Samadhiyami
I refrain from taking what is not mine (Stealing).
Kamesumichcha chara Veramani Sikkhapadan Samadhiyami
I refrain from sexual misconduct.
Musawada Veramani Sikkhapadan Samadhiyami
I refrain from telling lies.
Surameraya Majja Pama Dhattana Veramani Sikkhapadan Samadhiyami
I refrain from taking intoxicants (Alcohol and drugs)
According to Buddha’s teachings it is your thoughts that makes or breaks you. There are so many articles in the Internet regarding Buddha’s teachings. Our page too post articles. The best book to read at this stage is “What Buddha Taught” by an eminent Sri Lankan monk ‘Ven. Walpola Rahula’. If you have any more questions our page welcomes you. You will definitely have a peaceful life if you truly live up to Buddha’s teachings.
You can lead your own lifestyle as long as your habits adhere to the five precepts. Character wise, it is compassion on all beings that you should have. Once Buddha said that if a person can have loving kindness while he is being tortured by thieves, that person is a real follower of the Buddha.
I know it is difficult; but, if you live with indifference to all that’s happening in life and spread compassion (loving Kindness/ “Maithree”), you are above all. You will have the real solace. Meditation is the most important part in Buddha’s teachings. But, for that, you have to go to a Buddhist monk for advice, because, for each person the type of meditation is different.
As for food, there are no restrictions. But, as a Buddhist I would like if everybody could become a vegetarian saving the lives of the other beings.
As for habits, first see to your health by having clean habits, drinking lot of water and eating lot of vegetables and fruit. Secondly, find Buddhist books and spend at least one hour a day to learn Buddha’s teachings. Wherever you go, help the others in their need as you are able to. Spread the universal truth of Buddhism as you learn it.
May The Triple Gem Bless You!
MEDITATE WITH YOUR FAMILY
With the hectic pace and demands of modern life, many people feel stressed and over-worked. It often feels like there is just not enough time in the day to get everything done. Our stress and tiredness make us unhappy, impatient and frustrated. It can even affect our health. We are often so busy we feel there is no time to stop and meditate! But meditation actually gives you more time by making your mind calmer and more focused. A simple ten or fifteen minute breathing meditation as explained below can help you to overcome your stress and find some inner peace and balance.
Meditation can also help us to understand our own mind. We can learn how to transform our mind from negative to positive, from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy. Overcoming negative minds and cultivating constructive thoughts is the purpose of the transforming meditations found in the Buddhist tradition. This is a profound spiritual practice you can enjoy throughout the day, not just while seated in meditation.
Four Types of Meditation suitable to the Majority
1) Buddhanussati Meditation –Concentration of the mind with the continuous contemplation of a characteristic of Our Great Buddha.
2) Loving Kindness Meditation – Invoke blessings on other beings from one’s mind.
3) Meditation on Revulsion - Contemplating on the disgusting nature of the hair, teeth, nails and other organs of one’s body.
4) Marananussati Meditation – Contemplation of the inevitable death a being has to face.
1) Buddhanussati Meditationa)
a) Memorize in detail a Buddha image you like. ( It is advisable to do the meditation in front of a Buddha image at the start.)
b) Choose a peaceful place and sit comfortably keeping the back straight.
c) Start with worshiping our Great Buddha with the following sentences which contain his nine characteristics.
End the worshiping saying, ” I worship my Great Buddha, who has nine noble characteristics, with my mind, body & word.”
i) My Great Buddha is sacred with destroying all the defilements like lust, greed & passion; therefore, being worthy of veneration by gods and humans.
ii) My Great Buddha has known all things accurately by himself, which belong to the past, present & future; things that are timeless; without the help of anybody.
iii) My Great Buddha is proficient in supreme knowledge like “attaining insight” and fifteen kinds of conduct like “moral restrain”.
iv) My Great Buddha has followed the correct path to attain the enlightenment and has spoken appropriately at all times.
v) My Great Buddha has a complete knowledge of all the three worlds; “The world of beings”, “The world of formations” & “The world of spatial”.
vi) My Great Buddha is foremost in subduing those who were difficult to tame. He disciplined the humans, gods, devils, demons, demigods and Kings who were conceited with genus, merits, super natural powers, glory, knowledge & wisdom, etc.
vii) My Great Buddha is the noble teacher of all beings, humans and gods, leading them towards the good and the blissful Nirvana (Enlightenment).
viii) My Great Buddha has discovered the four Noble Truths all by himself and has awakened thousands of gods and humans with his knowledge leading them to enlightenment.
ix) My Great Buddha is fitting to be venerated and respected by all beings because of his infinite merit, indefinite super natural powers, boundless wisdom and limitless splendor.
d) Now, close your eyes and visualize the Buddha image in your mind and imagine as our great Buddha standing / sitting in front of you.
Reflect upon a quality of our great Buddha you like most from the above nine and meditate contemplating it.
e) Meditation should be done at least 15 minutes a day.
Meditation should be done with a composed mind suppressing all the other objectives.
Do not meditate for a long time initially. Increase the time bit by bit.
Do not meditate when you have ailments till they are cured.
